The Space Between Pause and Presence: Life Goes On

Life doesn’t pause when we do.
This past week I needed to step away from my many scheduled appointments and step into what mattered. Family needs. Health concerns. Days pulled away from the sanctuary, the business, the routine and rhythm I had carefully built. Commitments were missed and rescheduled. Messages are still unanswered. There is a a growing list of where I am now “behind.” And yet, nothing was truly missed because I was exactly where I needed to be.
There’s a strange in-between space that follows a week like that. I'm not quite back and definitely not caught up. This feels like a quiet limbo where life keeps moving, with or without my full participation. Where the calendar still turns, the emails still arrive, the world keeps spinning… and I'm left finding my footing again.
This week has been a reminder of how fragile all of this is. Health is not guaranteed. Time is not promised. The ordinary moments we often overlook are, in fact, the whole point.
So I find myself choosing differently as we move forward. Long morning walks. Tai chi in the garden. Meditation beside sunflowers just beginning to bloom. Basking in the birdsong I might have rushed past before. Nothing dramatic and also everything essential.
Life goes on as it always does. The question is not whether it will move forward but rather how present we are while it does. Today, I’m choosing to notice. To breathe. To be here for the moments that are here for me. And to use them wisely.
