One doesn't set out to fill a house with cats...

It all started with Einie...

Or Einstein, as Jen named this gorgeous tuxedo boy due to the wild white hair sprouting from his ears when we ran across his litter early one morning on a walk with our cat-dog, doberman Emma.   We left food and water for the kittens and Mother.  As time went by, we saw fewer and fewer cats from this litter until it was just Einie in the same water drain every morning.  We were able to pick him up and get him in a kennel.  And so it began.

The following Spring, I ran across baby Sandy (5 weeks old) while walking with Emma one morning.  I was able to pick her right up and brought her right home.  Since 2011, Cat in the House Rescue & Sanctuary has helped many dozens of cats of all ages.  Most of these cats have been adopted.  A few - not being socialized - have been returned to the community where we continue to feed, vet, and care for them.  We are hooked and are committed to helping in a much larger way.

The Arizona Humane Society has estimated

that there are over 250,000 free roaming cats in the Phoenix metropolitan area.  There are dozens in our neighborhood alone.  Our goal is to have a larger impact in the lives of both cats and humans through TNR, rescue, foster and adoption efforts.

We are currently applying for 501(c)3 status.

Watch for exciting ways to donate and contribute later in 2026.

In the meantime, below are photos of a few feline friends  that we have helped along the way.
